Low-Rider cars began in Southern California during the late 1940s. The Global craze has been a vehicle đfor the local community to showcase their culture and values. This was the case at the East Side Story Car Show and Fiesta held at the Pomona Fairplex Complex. The music was great and Notorious Entertainment tm did an outstanding job running the stages and presenting artists from Thump Records and other labels.
The audience was excited over the headlinersâ Thee Midniters who are the first commercially successful Chicano band and The Intruders  known for (Cowboys Girls) as well as Sunny Ozuna (Smile Now Cry Later).
Radio personality Mr Angel Baby did a great job steering the show throughout the day. I thought the music and the cars would consume my attention however the audience also was as much a part of the event as the artists! The socially conscious comments from Angel Baby created an ambiance of goodwill in the crowd that transformed these people from different areas and car clubs into a community. Local Lowrider events are a family affair now explains Ben Velasquez aka @colorblindshotz.â The car clubs that now compete together at the same events like this at one time had beef with each other.â Ben said. That mentality shifted over the years. The ending of the law against cruising was a new beginning in creating a dialogue among the different car clubs to heal past wounds. Ben a content creator and promoter of all things Low Rider also shared the activation once a month of Cruising Downtown Pomona a space that acts as a car show and swap meet. These events are focused on helping with local needs like a back-to-school drive. Proceeds go back into the communities local programs for children for instance.
The focus on family and the truly beautiful art pieces that you can drive and the forum to show them off are the draw for thousands. So when you get a chance to go to a low rider event bring your lawn chairs and picnic stuff and standby for the parade of moving art to pass!
