DOG HAUS - AMONG THE BEST WÜRST IN TOWN

Fans of gourmet and elevated pub fare at no strangers to Dog Haus, one of the top five places to eat a Hot Dog in the U.S. according to CNN.



Founded by partners Hagop Giragossian, Quasim Riaz and Andre Vener, three friends who share a passion for creativity, quality and commitment to community, the first Dog Haus opened in Pasadena in 2010. Since then, Dog Haus has garnered critical acclaim and national attention for its signature all beef Haus Dogs and handcrafted proprietary Haus Sausages, as well as its 100% genetically tested, humanely raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free Black Angus beef from Creekstone Farms. All Dog Haus dogs, sausages and burgers are served on grilled King’s Hawaiian rolls. Restaurants are open for lunch and dinner daily and guests can choose from signature, one-of-a-kind Haus creations or customize their own from a wide array of unique toppings.


Dog Haus is a haven for adventurous eaters who like their food topped with bold and daring toppings. Nothing is really plain or simple here. But it’s a good bet that everything is definitely delicious here. While you may consider menu items here as “diet-busters”, they are good motivation to workout a little harder the next day as a beer and a dog here are just so damn good.



During our recent visit to the Old Pasadena location, which has a full bar, we started our fine feast with The Love Boat Tots—fully loaded tater tots with haus chili. This was a great way to kickoff the night.

 


Looking for a tempting Haus Dog, there was plenty of competition but the Downtown dog barked the loudest. An all-beef dog with smoked bacon, caramelized onions, pickled peppers, mayo, mustard and ketchup, this dog is quite lovable.

 

Among the Haus Sausages, The Fonz, a cool combination of spicy Italian sausage plus pastrami and mozzarella cheese was a definite thumbs up. The mix of the spicy sausage, pastrami, mozzarella cheese on a Hawaiian bun was a definite hit.



While all the burgers looked like winners, The Hangover stood out. This blend of white American cheese, smoked bacon, haus chili, fried egg and mayo was terrifically tasty. Wow! The burgers also come on a King’s Hawaiian roll, which helps create a one-of-a-kind burger experience.

 


Burgers and beers as well as burgers and dogs are no-brainers as they tend to pair perfectly. The beer selection often changes but trust the staff to steer you right. As far as the cocktails are concerned, the Blind Melon (vodka, watermelon, rhubarb, lime, and chili lime salt), Tequila Thyme (tequila blanco, orange curacao, honey, thyme, and lemon), and Desperado (tequila reposado, habanero bitters, orange bitters, and Angostura bitters) are solid choices. Start with a cocktail but you really can’t go wrong with a beer and dog.
