One of my very favorite events of the year is always Art Beyond the Glass (ATBG)—an epic spectacle for bartenders to showcase their artistic talents. From cocktails to paintings, photography, live music, DJs, spoken word and more, ABTG is a celebration of bartender artistry inside and beyond the glass.
This year’s event will take place on Sunday, June 30 from 3pm to 7pm at Catch One in Arlington Heights. For fans of cocktails and cocktail culture, this is an event not to be missed.
Always a stellar time, I consider Art Beyond the Glass to be the Super Bowl of cocktail events in Los Angeles.
Founded in 2011 by Daniel Djang and Zahra Bates, proceeds from every ABTG event are donated to a local arts-based nonprofit and to date, ABTG has donated more than $250,000 to these vital community organizations. This year’s event will benefit Self Help Graphics & Art, which is dedicated to the production, interpretation and distribution of prints and other art media by Chicana, Chicano and Latinx artists.
This year marks the third year in a row where ABTG will be held at Catch One—originally opened in 1973 where it was the longest running black gay dance bar in Los Angeles.
Every year, the event feature numerous top local bartenders. And indeed, over the years, Art Beyond the Glass has become integral to the L.A. bar community. Bartenders, of course, make drinks but they also make art. They make community. And this is the perfect event to celebrate everything they do.
In addition to the artistic showcases and cocktail creations, guests will have the opportunity to purchase bartender art, handmade items and participate in a silent auction.
Tickets for ABTG XII include unlimited cocktails, art, entertainment, and bar bites. General Admission tickets are available now for $65 per person and can be purchased on the Catch One website. Please note this event is strictly 21 and over.
