GEORGETOWN CUPCAKE LOS ANGELES OPENS
Foodies and sweet tooth addicts get ready because Georgetown Cupcake, an east coast cupcake staple with shops in Bethesda, New York City and Boston, has come out west and landed on trendy Robertson Boulevard.
Sisters Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne are the co-founders of Georgetown Cupcake, stars of the hit series DC Cupcakes on TLC, and best-selling authors of The Cupcake Diaries (their book Sweet Celebrations was released in October).
Inspired by their grandmother, in 2008 Katherine and Sophie traded careers in fashion and venture capital to follow their passion for baking and opened Georgetown Cupcake in Washington, DC. Since then, they have expanded their cute cupcake shop with locations in Bethesda, trendy SoHo, and posh Newbury Street (one the most expensive streets in the world) in Boston.
During the Grand Opening of the Robertson shop, Katherine and Sophie were joined by the likes of Lindsey Shaw (“Pretty Little Liars”), Taylor Spreitler (“Melissa & Joey”), Alex Newell (“Glee”), Alexandra Chando (“The Lying Game”), Kathryn Fiore (“The Wedding Band”), and Shanola Hampton (“Shameless”). Guests enjoyed a champagne and cupcake dessert reception as they explored Georgetown Cupcake’s fifth location; the first on the west coast.
Georgetown Cupcake ships its delicious cupcakes nationwide and offers over 100 flavors. Personal favorites include Salted Caramel, Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate PB Swirl, and Red Velvet. Everyday healthier options include Gluten-free Lava Fudge, as well as Vegan Cranberry Spice. Cupcakes cost $2.75 apiece; $15 for a half dozen; and $29 for an even dozen.
Georgetown Cupcake’s signature frosting is a vanilla cream cheese frosting that is less sweet than a traditional buttercream frosting, although regular frosting options are available as well. A cute shop, it’s impressive how enormous the kitchen is—all the better to ensure the constant creating of delicious and decadent desserts.
Georgetown Cupcake Los Angeles is located 143 S. Robertson Blvd. Call 310-893-2866. Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10am to 9pm; Sunday 10am to 8pm.
26-FT TALL MARILYN MONROE CALI BOUND
Southern Californians will soon have to opportunity to see firsthand what's hidden under Marilyn Monroe's famous white skirt.
"Forever Marilyn," a 26-foot-tall statue that has become a controversial fixture on Chicago's lofty Michigan Avenue, will make its way to Palm Springs next month where it will stand tall at Tahquitz Canyon and Palm Canyon drives and stay there until June 2013.
The stunning statue recreates the iconic scene from Monroe’s 1955 film The Seven Year Itch when a well-time draft from a New York subway grate blows the blonde bombshell’s skirt well above her knees. While not everyone in Chicago has been a fan, it did prove to be an extremely popular public attraction.
Do you think this will be worth a drive to desert to see for yourself? I sense road trip.
