MR LEE’S NOODLES
QUICK & EASY COMFORT FOOD
I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, every meal doesn’t need to be some extravagant feast. Sometimes quick and easy gets the job done. And this summer, I discovered Mr Lee’s Noodles, which offer a new meaning to instant cup of noodles.
Billed as gourmet food in a cup, Mr Lee’s Noodles use premium freeze-dried ingredients, are certified low in sugar and gluten free, and are free of MSG and hydrogenated fats. In other words, the beef tastes like beef, the ginger tastes like ginger, and likewise, the broccoli tastes like broccoli.
And in case you’re wondering, Mr Lee is Damien Lee who at one time was told he only had weeks to live.
“That’s how long I was given when I was diagnosed with cancer,” the proud cancer survivor says.
“I knew that for me at that time, a diet of no nasties, raw food and chemo, as well as having a determined mind and spirit was the only way to beat this thing. But all the time I craved my favorite guilty pleasure; instant noodles. But I just couldn’t because I knew they are full of junk, and that wasn’t going to help me fight the battle ahead.”
After beating cancer, Mr Lee aimed to revolutionize noodles.
These noodles are rice noodles from Vietnam, deemed by some as the best noodles in the world.
The process to prepare is simple. Shake the cup. Fill the cup with boiling water. Stir. Wait for approximately three minutes. And then enjoy delicious comfort food.
The flavors that I tried included Hong Kong Street-Style Beef; Zen Garden Vegetable; Tai Chi Chicken; and Coconut Chicken Curry.
To my surprise, the veggie cup of noodles was my favorite of the bunch as the broth was just so tasty. The chicken curry was a close second. I didn’t think the beef in the beef noodles were all that but the noodles and broth really came forward with taste.
While noodles on a sizzling summer day may not be optimal, they do serve as joyful comfort food under the right circumstances.
