24-HOUR GOODNESS ALL AROUND TOWN
With locations in Hollywood and West Hollywood, Kitchen 24, a 24-hour restaurant and bar concept that combines the relaxed comfort of a traditional diner with a vibrant and modern energy, has quickly become the go-to place for foodies, bar lovers and late night revelers.
At Kitchen 24, the goal is to combine traditional diner attributes such as value, comfort, accessibility and consistent All-American cuisine with a fun and modern menu, design and atmosphere. Their tasty menu is a reinterpretation of classic American diner cuisine where as much as possible is prepared in-house with fresh organic ingredients.
Co-owner David Dickerson describes K24 as a “utilitarian restaurant with the highest quality food where no reservations are ever required.”
Dickerson also touts the restaurants’ color scheme as “flavors”, noting the main ingredients are “chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.” In fact, it’s that Neapolitan look, along with booths that resemble old car seats, white brick walls and silverware chandeliers that foster a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Working with Kristofer Keith of Spacecraft Group, who consulted and collaborated on the Hollywood location and served as the contractor and designer for the recently opened West Hollywood restaurant, K24 employs classic diner design cues, with terrazzo flooring, stainless steel, schoolhouse lamps and glass interiors.
Name the meal and time of day and Kitchen 24 has you covered. A must-have menu item is their chili, easiest the best chili in town. Truth be told, it’s veggie chili but don’t even sweat that. The Vegetarian Chili with Corn Bread features rich, hearty slow cooked chili served with warm corn bread and walnut butter. Garnished with grated cheddar, sour cream, and pico de gallo, at $8.95 it makes for a perfect meal on its own or as a terrific starter item. It simply can’t be beat.
Dickerson swears by the K24 Burger, served on a toasted brioche bun with thick cut bacon, sliced onions, sliced tomatoes, mayo, lettuce and sliced pickles, declaring, “It’s an excellent, excellent burger, right down to our brioche bun.”
Also as impressive is the K24 Tuna Burger, which is made with a chopped Ahi tuna patty seared rare and served on a toasted brioche bun with pickled ginger, Wasabi mayo, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and onions. Order a side of Sweet Potato Fries and you’ll be good-to-go. Let comfort food coma begin. And throw in the tasty Jalapeño Margarita just because.
Looking for a healthy breakfast, that’s easy. But do make sure to start with an excellent cup of coffee, which is powered by Synesso and features Victrola Coffee, not to mention the Barista’s handcraft each drink with Clover Organic Farms grass fed milk. The perfect guilt free breakfast option is the Mediterranean Tofu Scramble, made with crumbled extra firm organic tofu, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, kalamata olives, fresh basil and feta cheese. It also comes with hash browns or herb roasted breakfast potatoes and toast. At $9.75, you have a meal that will fuel you all morning long without the need for extra time spent on the treadmill. However, if you don’t mind a calorie-burning session post breakfast, the Croissant French Toast, battered and griddled with caramelized cinnamon apples, is hearty and decadent.
Kitchen 24 also features one of the best happy hours in town. Sunday thru Thursday from 3 to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m., you can get $6 specialty cocktails, $3 beers, $5 well drinks, and bar appetizers for $5. The West Hollywood K24 also features limitless mimosas and Bloody Marys on Saturdays. Get there early, as it is quite the scene with folks getting their drink on all day long.
A place to go to for party people after ‘closing time’ at nearby bars and clubs, the West Hollywood K24 has an extra-relaxed vibe thanks to its hipster outdoor patio, which Dickerson likens to an “urban beach”
“It’s perfect to enjoy afternoons in the sun when that’s not always so easy to do in the city,” Dickerson explains. “Sometimes it’s difficult to sit in the sun and have mimosas all day. We’re not only a great restaurant, we’re also a fun and inviting drinking establishment. We take just as much pride in creating out cocktails as we do our food. We start from scratch and make everything with fresh ingredients. All of the things that you would use in the kitchen to make a great dish, we also use in our bar to make a great drink.”
And lets forget about K24’s homemade Cupcakes ($2.50). Everyday you can get their classic Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Their cupcake menu revolves during the week as such: Monday - Smashing Pumpkin, a light pumpkin chiffon cupcake, frosted with cream cheese frosting; Tuesday - Cinn-Ful Cinnamon coffee cake with a streusel swirl and frosted with a marbled cinnamon cream cheese frosting; Wednesday - Gingerbread Dude, a gingerbread cake with cream cheese frosting and a little gingerbread man atop; Thursday - Das Cupcake Chocolate cake, with a German chocolate frosting with coconut and pecans; Friday - Sticky Piggy Maple and bacon infused cupcake with a hidden drop of maple syrup inside topped with a maple cream cheese frosting; Saturday - Cookie Dough Vanilla cake with cookie dough center and cookie dough frosting; Sunday - S'mores Devils Food cake with graham cracker crumbs topped with light fluffy marshmallow frosting.
And be on the lookout for a K24 opening sometime soon in the heart of downtown L.A. with a patio of equal size to the West Hollywood restaurant, making sure the entire city is covered when it comes to quality food and drink for all.
