LANEA CELEBRATES NATIONAL TACO DAY
OCTOBER 4 WITH DRIVE-THRU TACO STAND
Voted “Best Mexican Food on the Westside” and “Best Cocktail Bar in L.A.”, Lanea Cocktail and Taco Bar is spicing it up for National Taco Day and making their to-go options that much easier to pick up to celebrate. From 12 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, October 4, Lanea will be hosting a Drive-Thru Taco Stand to raise funds for the Santa Monica Firefighters Relief Fund.
Customers and passersby can walk up or purchase in advance to pick up at an easily accessible drive-thru, located in the adjacent alley where guests can indulge in their favorite Westside street tacos made to order from Chef Petra herself. Lanea will provide free tacos to all firefighters and frontline workers as a courtesy for all their dedication and hard work during these times. Furthermore, Lanea will be offering one free taco of your choice with the purchase of any hand-crafted $9 cocktail. A portion of all sales from National Taco Day will benefit the Santa Monica Firefighters Relief Fund.
Lanea will be offering a number of items at the National Taco Day Drive-Thru, including their all day, everyday “Taco & Tequila Happy Hour” menu, which features tacos starting at $2 and canned or frozen cocktails starting at $9 (regularly $13). Happy hour specials also include $3 Chips & Pico de Gallo, $6 Chips & Guacamole and $4 Consome, which is bone broth with chipotle chickpeas, onion, and cilantro. The Drive-Thru will also be a great way to pick up their new "Hot Stuff," homemade 4 oz. hot sauces, Salsa Verde and Salsa Rojo retailing for $4.99, as well as their premium Tequila and Mezcal "Jet Fuel" Flights. The flights come with a sipping cup copita, sal gusano and an orange slice for your enjoyment.
Located two blocks from the beach, Lanea is a spirit-driven cocktail bar and restaurant with an extensive variety of over 400 hand-selected mezcals and tequilas. Their authentic Mexican cuisine is prepared by Petra Zavaleta who hails from Tepeaca, Puebla. She rose to foodie fame with her underground barbacoa pop-ups, and later opened Barbakush in East L.A.
Petra and her family source their lamb locally from Chino Hills and prepare their barbacoa in an earthen pit, cooking it slowly over an open fire. Offering several different styles of classic tacos on their handmade-to-order corn tortillas, as well as chips and guacamole, they are the perfect complement to Lanea’s unique cocktail menu.
“This year has already been a crazy year for us all and the addition of a record-breaking pre-start to fire season elevates the stress on our firefighters and frontline workers,” says Lanea’s Peter Trinh. “Petra and I, alongside our other partners, are really thankful and humbled by the local support as we continue to offer a safe, affordable outlet for the local community. So, we wanted to do something to help us all band together to support and thank our firefighters and frontline workers further.”
Patrons can enjoy a variety of taco offerings which start at $2, including Barbacoa Tacos, wrapped in banana leaves and are pit-roasted underground, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Asada Tacos, grilled steak seasoned with Petra’s seasoning, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Pollo Tacos, grilled chicken seasoned with Petra's seasonings, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Cesina Tacos, thinly sliced and tenderized beef, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Vegetarian Tacos, with mushrooms and spinach, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Sopes Tacos, with beans and asada topped with Mexican cream, served with guacamole, cilantro and onions; Pescado Tacos, tilapia with lettuce and garlic seasoning; and lastly the Pescado con Mango Taco, tilapia with mango, jalapeno, green & red pepper, and avocado. The newest additions to Lanea’s taco menu include the Lobster and Crab Tacos topped with mango, purple cabbage, avocado, chipotle mayo as well as a new Beyond Meat Taco served with guacamole, cilantro and onions. All are handmade-to-order on 100% gluten-free corn tortillas, with the option to make any of the tacos into quesadillas for a couple dollars more. Brunch tacos and quesadillas such as the Huevos con Chorizo, Huevos con Bacon, Huevos con Sausage, or Huevos con Queso are available daily until 4pm.
Guests can also pick up one of Lanea’s popular “Fiesta Meal-Packs” such as the Picnic Pack, which comes with six tacos of your choice, chips and pico de gallo, two handmade cocktails, and a Mexican-themed blanket for $48. Or choose the Chill in the Sun Pack, which contains four tacos of your choice, chips and pico de gallo, and two handmade frozen cocktails.
Lanea is located at 217 Broadway in Santa Monica. National Taco Day Drive-Thru at Lanea is this Sunday, October 4 from 12 pm to 7 pm. Firefighters and frontline workers need to show their badge or employment verification to receive their free tacos.
